Hybrid Pipe Sleepers

Koender's revolutionary Hybrid Pipe Sleepers are designed to disrupt the current practice of skilled trades people installing conventional concrete and steel sleepers that are expensive to manufacture, ship, install or extract, and nearly impossible to reuse.

 

The Hybrid Pipe Sleeper is incredibly versatile as its universal saddle accommodates a wide range of pipe diameters without modification. It may also be placed on virtually any level or vertical graded surface, including virgin muskeg (bog), without costly surface preparation.

 

Standard models are available for pipe diameters from 4” to 48” OD with 10” of pipe clearance. We can quickly produce custom designs for any pipe diameter or ground clearance (e.g., 52"). The sleeper is also 100% recyclable after its expected 25-year service life.

WHAT ARE HYBRID PIPELINE SLEEPERS?

Each hybrid pipeline sleeper consist of a high-strength steel insert encapsulated within a lightweight, heavy-duty, high-impact, corrosion-free, UV-stabilized HDPE roto-molded shell that is impermeable to water and frost.

Each hybrid sleeper weighs less than 65 pounds (30 kg) and are rated to support point loads in excess of 25,000 pounds.

Our hybrid sleepers are also known as composite sleepers.

UNIVERSAL SADDLE FOR VERSATILITY AND VALUE.

Our standard model is highly versatile as it accommodates pipe diameters from 4” to 48” OD (without any modifications), which he and provides for 10” of pipe clearance. As a result, the sleepers can be easily reused many times over their 25-year life expectancy.

The pipe saddle is optional, but is recommended as it provides ovality resistance.

 

If one of our standard designs doesn't fit your application, our team of engineers will update the design for any pipe diameter or ground clearance -- free of charge and with no obligation.

DESIGNED TO MOVE WITH YOUR PIPELINE.

The Hybrid Pipeline Sleeper's design takes various factors into account; such as variable un-engineered ground conditions, vertical and horizontal stress from pipe movement, and expansion and contraction due to the extreme temperature fluctuations.

Regardless of your application, the Hybrid Pipeline Sleeper has been designed, tested, and field-proven to support various diameters of pipe with the ability to move with the metal expansion without toppling or damaging the pipeline.

ENGINEERED TO BE PLACED ON VIRGIN SOIL, INCLUDING BOG AND MUSKEG, WITHOUT EXPENSIVE COMPACTION.

Our sleepers were purpose-built for the Canadian oil sands to support industrial pipelines on virgin muskeg (arctic bog) with level and vertical grades without compaction or surface prep - basically, the worst case scenario.

Although designed for the brutal conditions of sub-arctic Canadian summers and winters, these sleepers are equally suited for use inside your plant, fabrication yard, or to store pipe securely.

ENVIRONMENTALLY AND PIPELINE FRIENDLY.
100% RECYCLABLE, TOO.

HDPE is chemically inert, which means our sleepers don’t come with same environmental burdens that steel and concrete as they are corrosion-free. Nor do our sleepers leach and contaminate soil like railway ties or wood dunnage, which are often pressure-treated with creosote to protect it from insect attack and decay.

HDPE is also softer than most pipeline coatings, which means that the sleeper won't damage your pipeline and wear pads aren't necessary, which reduces your pipeline's maintenance costs.

Their lightweight and compact design drastically reduces your transport costs and carbon footprint. Because the HDPE shell is impermeable to the elements, each sleeper will last for the life of your project without maintenance or will be reused many times before it is ultimately 100% recycled.

INCREASE WORKSITE SITE SAFETY.

At less than 65 pounds each, our sleepers are lightweight and are easily placed by a single unskilled worker using the built-in lifting points and nodes without the aid of heavy equipment. These lifting points and nodes also provide for safer stacking, transportation, and storage.

Our unique sleeper design provides for easy access to the flanges for safer and more efficient pipeline maintenance and inspection. Similarly, because the sleeper is encapsulated in plastic there is no metal-to-metal contact or hot work and thus cathodic protection or straps aren't required.

Our sleepers are also the responsible alternative to cheap temporary wooden dunnage, which will eliminate a serious tripping hazard from your job site.

Finally, don't forget to stand out safely and pick your color! We’re particularly fond of high-viz orange, but our sleepers are available in every high-visibility colour and some even glow in the dark!
